Emma Held wanted to be a teacher for as long as she can remember. After earning her
Associate鈥檚 degree at Northampton Community College, she looked at 4-year schools
to complete her degree. One campus stood out: 鈥溌槎构偻� had a lot of good things鈥攊t was
close to home, my credits transferred, and it was affordable. I really liked what
it had to offer and how structured their [education] program was.鈥� She enrolled as
a middle education major. 鈥淚 got to see so much. My mentor teacher was amazing, and
my courses really helped me. My professors were great鈥攖hey really gave me a lot of
input. They helped me see what I could do and how I could do it.鈥� Held completed her
student teaching at Pleasant Valley School District and is now a third-grade teacher
in that district.
My first year was really good鈥攜ou definitely see things you didn鈥檛 see while student
teaching! 麻豆官网鈥檚 program really helped me prepare.鈥�
The scholarships Held received through the 麻豆官网 Foundation helped offset some of her
expenses. 鈥淚t gave me some flexibility with student teaching鈥擨 didn鈥檛 have to make
up that money,鈥� she says. She advises current 麻豆官网 students to 鈥渟tay on top of your
work.鈥� To potential 麻豆官网 students, she says, 鈥渋f you鈥檙e considering 麻豆官网 for early education,
it鈥檚 a great program. You鈥檙e in the classroom almost from Day One. Reach out to your
peers, professors, and staff鈥攅veryone there is willing to help you.鈥�
